Strategy & Sustainability Intensive Spring 2019

Are you looking for a flexible strategic plan to respond to our rapidly changing world? Is your team short on time, but in need of a clear strategy to get your organization ready for what’s next? Would you welcome a clear picture of your true value, and how to leverage that for your nonprofit’s sustainability? Do you need a new direction for where and how to obtain resources to address the needs of your clients and constituents? 
The Strategy & Sustainability Intensive: Planning for What’s Next is a one-day intensive designed to help your organization create a flexible strategy road map to respond to new opportunities and challenges. In today’s volatile world, nonprofits must focus on strategy and sustainability to stay relevant. During the Strategy & Sustainability Intensive, nonprofit teams will receive in-depth training and coaching from Mission Capital experts on a holistic approach to planning for their nonprofit’s unique needs and resources.
Space is limited to 6 organizations, so register early!
By the end of this intensive, you will be able to: 
  • Develop and implement an adaptive strategic planning process for your organization
  • Make “just in time” changes to your plan and respond to new opportunities and threats
In this session you will: 
  • Identify several strategic planning approaches for your unique nonprofit business model through rigorous analysis
  • Review your mission statement and explore your external identity
  • Analyze your core programs for sustainability and revenue opportunities
  • Explore your organization’s value proposition to the community
  • Simulate scenarios to test planning tools in real time
  • Receive expert advice from consultants to determine the specific planning process, timeline, and budget that will serve you best
  • Create action items and milestones to launch your responsive planning process
Who Should Attend: 
The course is specifically designed for nonprofit teams (3 - 5 participants per organization). Executive directors, board members, program directors and/or key senior staff involved in strategy development are encouraged to attend.
The fee for this course includes: 
  • One day of interactive training, team discussion and real-time coaching from experienced Mission Capital Consultants
  • Registration for up to 5 participants from your organization
  • A packet of powerful tools and worksheets to put to use in future planning
  • A healthy lunch, as well as snacks and drinks throughout the day, to keep you energized as you plan for your organization’s future
$645 for 3-5 participants per member organization/$795 for 3-5 participants per non-member organization

About the Facilitators: 
Tara Kirkland
Tara Kirkland (M.P.A. from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University) loves her work as the Chief Programs & Services Officer. Tara brings to Mission Capital and our consulting clients the experience she has gained from building the capacity of people, organizations and communities in diverse nonprofit, government and for-profit settings over the past sixteen years. An Austin native, Tara returned to Central Texas in the fall of 2004 after spending several years in the northeast - including two years as a Presidential Management Fellow for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's Southwest Border Initiative in Washington, DC. She joined the Mission Capital team in 2005.

Tara is a proud graduate of both the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs of Syracuse University and the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Tara’s Austin area nonprofit experience includes designing, managing and evaluating programs and projects with Family Forward and the Charles A. Dana Center at UT Austin, grassroots institution-based organizing with Austin Interfaith, and leadership and team development consulting with Highest Vision, Inc., where she became certified to administer and interpret the DISC Behavior Profile. Tara is a graduate of the 2009 Leadership Austin Essentials class.

Katelyn Lowrey
Katelyn is a Consultant specializing in strategic planning, board governance, collective impact, earned revenue and program management. She also manages the Mission Accelerator, a five-month program designed to fast-track the growth and impact of nonprofits in Greater Austin.

Katelyn brings a unique background of experiences in operations, education, youth development, and collective impact to Mission Capital. Prior to joining the Mission Capital team, Katelyn served as a Program Associate for Educate Texas and supported the development of their Statewide Collective Impact Collaborative. Katelyn has extensive experience in the education and youth development fields. She was a high school English teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina through Teach For America. Katelyn also has experience providing direct care services to youth through Communities in Schools. Katelyn has a Master’s in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor’s in Science from Indiana University Bloomington in Human Development & Family Studies with minors in Psychology and Sociology.

Mission Capital’s Learning & Leadership Offerings Refund Policy
All cancellation and refund requests must be received IN WRITING at least 2 weeks in advance of the Learning & Leadership offering. Registrants may request a refund of fees paid, minus a $50 administrative fee, by emailing 
marym@missioncapital.org. NO REFUNDS will be processed within two weeks of the event date. Rather than requesting a refund, you may transfer your registration to another staff member, board member, or volunteer by contacting marym@missioncapital.org - all transfer requests must be received at least one week prior to the event date.
