Position Details:

Communities In School of Central Texas is currently seeking a passionate and highly collaborative Director of School Climate and Culture dedicated to supporting school teams in the pursuit of an engaging and supportive school climate for all students! The Director of School Climate and Culture serves on a multi-disciplinary team to assess the culture and climate needs of the Consuelo Mendez Middle School and the Dove Springs community, and creates a responsive, culturally relevant annual implementation plan.

The Director of School Climate and Culture aligns social-emotional and behavioral intervention systems in collaboration with the partner school leadership, to create a positive learning environment and school culture for the Mendez Middle School community. They provide supervision, support and professional development addressing classroom management, school climate topics and individual support to a small team focused on climate, culture, partnership and community coordination and collaboration.

Primary Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with school leadership, set and invest staff in a vision for a joyful, structured and caring school environment
  • Collaborate with school leadership to maintain a positive, peaceful and safe culture and drive effective execution of school culture systems and structures
  • Work with all staff and students to design and implement school wide culture systems (i.e. entry, dismissal, transition, incentive systems, community meetings etc.) aligned to the vision for school culture
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with corporations, civic groups, faith institutions, university groups and other community groups to secure volunteers and resources to meet the campus’ goals and realize its vision
  • Participate in student disciplinary meetings and coordinate peer mediation and other restorative practices/responses to student disciplinary concerns when appropriate
  • Coordinate intensive individual student behavior plans, coach teachers to implement classroom management systems and positive behavior interventions
  • Coordinate and ensure consistent implementation of research-based social emotional learning (SEL) and positive behavior interventions aligned within a multi-tiered intervention framework
  • Provide support in crisis interventions including school-wide and individual student situations following ISD protocol  including conducting crisis assessments, positive support plans, parental notification and other reporting and notifications as required by ISD policy or law
  • Collaborate with school leadership teams to oversee the referral of students requiring social-emotional and behavior support and social services through Child Study Team facilitation
  • Lead the data collection and assessment process to evaluate effectiveness of school climate initiatives including data and assessments related to service coordination, school-wide implementation of climate initiatives, stakeholder surveys
  • Engage school community and caregivers in the educational process and by providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs
  • Support principals and principal managers to monitor and respond to student culture data
  • Participate in the CIS team approach to problem solving
  • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Chief Program Officer

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least five (5) years working in a school setting
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience working with at-risk youth
  • A demonstrated record of effectively leading adults in creating change
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with school, students, parents and community based agencies
  • The ability to establish a multicultural and multigenerational atmosphere, including a strong commitment to working with the families of our students
  • Experience mediating disputes and designing intervention plans
  • Experience with program and contract management including budgets and compliance measures
  • Experience supervising professional supervisory level staff
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a school leader is preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred
