Position Details:

Big Medium is seeking a Designer to lead digital and print production for all Big Medium communications and publications. The Designer will work directly with the Director of Programming and play an important role in our small, energetic, collaborative team.



  • Lead in-house design projects from conception-to-completion including:
    • East and West Austin Studio Tour catalogs, maps, and pamphlets
    • Ads for media partners and clients
    • Sponsor decks, rental packets, and media kits
    • Event and promotional collateral including invitations, brochures, rack cards, t-shirts, banners, wall vinyl, billboards, etc.
    • Powerpoint presentations and unique grant deliverables
  • Contribute to overall design and branding of new programs and maintain consistency of messaging and branding of current programs
  • Manage the print production process
  • Identify and engage with trends in the field, timely content, cutting-edge strategies, and new tools, and consider ways to apply them at Big Medium



  • Support Director of Programming in developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies
  • Develop and oversee full suite of digital content, including website, email marketing, and social media, and use such channels strategically to engage audiences
  • Work with Director of Programming to develop and execute social media strategies to support exhibitions, programs, and events, actively managing and updating social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Format and upload content to Big Medium and Canopy websites, social media accounts, and other online platforms with accuracy, consistency and an eye to the design and overall brand and marketing goals
  • Coordinate and track communications calendar, production timelines, and budgets
  • Manage photography assets, collateral inventory, and reordering as needed
  • Archive exhibition and event assets
  • Measure performance of marketing and communications initiatives and efforts, including analyzing and reporting data, and optimizing the effectiveness of such efforts



  • Represent Big Medium at various community events and engage new members and supporters
  • Build relationships with artists, donors, sponsors, community organizations, cultural colleagues, and schools to deepen and expand Big Medium’s community outreach
  • Assist with Big Medium events in a support role as needed for exhibition openings, tour related events, and rentals



  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Basic knowledge of HTML & CSS
  • A fluid aesthetic capable of executing a wide variety of design directions with a willingness to receive and incorporate creative direction
  • A talent for concept development, layout, color, and typography
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, time management, multi-tasking, flexibility, consistency
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Google Docs
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and events as needed

The position is full time. The salary is commensurate with experience and includes paid time off, paid holidays, and an IRA plan with employer match.
